A Servant to Two Masters is a comedy of errors about a particular servant- Truffaldino- trying, and often failing, to serve his two masters. Beatrice (masquerading as her dead brother) and her fugitive lover Florindo are searching for each other and inadvertently both unknowingly become Masters to Truffaldino. Their efforts to find one another are foiled by their servant who endlessly tries to keep one Master from finding out about the other.
Truffaldino, who doesn't seem to acknowledge the fine line between stupidity and genius, gets into all kinds of mischief in this classic 18th century commedia dell'arte- finding himself underpaid and overstretched, unknowingly causing much stress for the other characters.
A marriage is sabotaged, lovers are driven to near suicide and two households are almost at war; all goes unnoticed by the servant, who simply wants to 'get some decent scran down [his] neck.'
A witty Italian comedy by Carlo Goldoni from the literal translation by Gwenda Pandolfi and cleverly adapted by Lee hall, A Servant to Two Masters is guaranteed to make you laugh, cry and gawk in horror at the measures some characters go to get what they crave.
